How it all began.
On one slow day in an optical lab, I discovered a new canvas on which to apply my own art by scratching images onto the surface of old spectacle lens blanks. I was using a picture framer for my other art but these pieces would need specialized framing to be exhibited properly and paying someone else to frame them correctly would be too expensive. I started producing my own frames. Artists and art buyers asked for the name of my picture framer and I was happy to tell them it was me.
This business began as Signature Lenses, primarily selling the artistic endeavors of the owner. The first name change to South of Soho Fine Art came when the idea of promoting other artists was had, and finally, the name became Want It Framed/ South of Soho Fine Art and Custom Picture Framing when the decision was made to, not only build my own framing needs, but to offer the services to other artists, photographers, and new clients from the retail and corporate market.
I try to have my artistic moments, but picture framing has now grown to become the primary focus of this business. So, in a way, my art is to properly frame yours.
South of Soho has also been a sub-contractor for another local framing business, constructing 90% of the frame orders, for over four years now.
I prepared a business plan for a management class assignment years ago. It proposed that my abilities as a licensed Optician could be used outside of the typical office setting by creating a mobile service. Fittings could be done in the homes of those incapable of easy mobility, in businesses willing to offer a new benefit to employees, or to the busy executives unable to find the time in their schedules.
Am I a mobile Optician? No. It's the same plan but with different frames. It's picture framing done well in the comfort of your home or office.
